Doctor of Philosophy (P.hD)
The Petroleum Engineering program provides a doctoral experience which will suit the candidates needs in terms of their career goals and research objectives.
Program Design
For new graduates, the PhD program at the Petroleum Engineering program will prepare you for the life in ‘Research’ and will help you form a strong industry network. For experienced candidates, the Petroleum Engineering program can adjust the program to highly focus on research objective through reduced course loads and availability of a wide range of resources. The doctoral program is offered both on-campus and through UND’s world-class distance education program.
Program Support
The research direction adopted by Ph.D. students are advised by experts from the industry including the local industry from North Dakota and also the project topics that are proposed by the North Dakota Industrial Commission (NDIC).
The petroleum engineering program has many software suites available to modeling and world-class labs for conducting controlled experimentation. University of North Dakota especially encourages inter-disciplinary research through various programs and incentives. The Petroleum engineering program at UND provides a laboratory environment that encourages innovation and large-scale experimentation.
The University of North Dakota also helps Ph.D. students in their research through internship programs to work on large-scale energy research projects at research centers across campus. These research centers include:
Institute for Energy Studies[BROKEN LINK]
Energy & Environmental Research Center
Our extensive network of industrial experts also helps with requirements and needs of the PhD students.
