VEX Robotics Competitions
The College of Engineering & Mines aims to become the premiere engineering institution representing competitive robotics in the region.
Combining innovation and education, our goal is to use hands-on learning to advance students in science, technology, engineering and math. We see robotics competitions as the perfect place to mentor and grow the engineers of tomorrow. That is why we are proud to sponsor events in both Minnesota and North Dakota.
University of North Dakota Signature VEX Events
Alerus Center | January 9-10, 2026
The University of North Dakota Signature is a VEX V5 Robotics Competition, which engages high school students in a metal-based robotics system. This January 2026 event will be the second time UND has hosted a tournament at Alerus Center. Students from around the region will compete for two qualifying awards (Excellence Award and Tournament Champion) which make them eligible to compete at the World Tournament. The 2026 Worlds will be held April 21-24 in St. Louis, Mo.
Mall of America
While this marked the fourth year of a VEX Robotics Signature Event at Mall of America, 2025 was the first time UND took the helm—bringing a new level of energy and innovation to this high-profile tournament. With 200,000 daily visitors, the Mall of America provided a public stage for this elite competition, drawing 120 high school teams, 1,000 students, 150 volunteers and 10,000 livestream viewers. Check back for upcoming events at the Mall of America!
