Engineering Alumni Academy
The Alumni Academy honors the achievements of alumni and serves to encourages current students in their academic pursuits.
The Alumni Academy is comprised of a select group of alumni, with members inducted annually. The academy was first established in the fall of 2003 to honor the achievements of alumni, and serves to encourage and motivate current students in their academic pursuits. This is the highest award bestowed on our alumni by the College. Biographical information is up to date as of their induction date.

Roger Borg

Career Highlights
- His master’s thesis, “Intercity Travel Synthesized from Inter City Origin and Destination Surveys,” played a key role in the early stages of the Interstate Highway System, the largest public works program in the world. With it, he created an algorithm to project interstate traffic, which was distributed nationally to every state highway department by the Bureau of Public Roads (BPR).
- He played a significant role in the “Roads that Built America” through the completion of the interstate highway system, 46,876 miles in total. Upon completion, it was the largest single engineering and construction project on the planet.
- As part of the Senior Executive Service (SES), he led the restructuring and relocation of the Federal Highway Administration’s largetst field office in California, aligning it with a new strategic plan and implementing modern workstations and computer technology. The SES is the highest rank in the federal government’s civil service system equivalent to a general in the Armed Services.
Professional Accomplishments
- Registered Profession Engineer (PE) in North Dakota (1963), Iowa (1964), Pennsylvania (1969), Texas (1983) and California (1997).
- Concluded his 36-year career as the head of the Federal Highway Administration Office for the State of California, holding the federal grade of Senior Exective Service (SES).
Philanthropy
- Roger establised the Manitou-Roger Borg Scholarship for Civil Engineering majors at the University of North Dakota. He and his sons, Brad and Greg, continue to support UND engineering students.

Her greatest achievements are the people in her life that she has had the honor to mentor and are hungry to keep learning and growing both in business and life. Her motivation for herself has always been to take one day at a time and life is measured in happiness, achieving goals, and helping others to succeed.

Leslie R. Honeyman

- Les had a successful 40+ year career as a highly respected oil expert in the field of Geology, beginning in 1973 with Exxon Mobil in New Orleans, La. and later transferring with Exxon to Midland, Texas. He later worked with Endeavor Energy Resources through his own successful consulting company Honeyman Exploration, in Midland, Texas. During his career, he did extensive work studying the Permian Basin.

- STS-124 Discovery (May 31 to June 14, 2008) was the 123rd Space Shuttle flight, and the 26th Shuttle flight to the International Space Station. STS-124 was launched from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, and docked with the International Space Station on June 2 to deliver the Japanese Experiment Module-Pressurized Module (JEM-PM) and the Japanese Remote Manipulator System. STS-124 Shuttle astronauts delivered the 37-foot (11-meter) Kibo laboratory, added its rooftop storage room and conducted three spacewalks to maintain the station and to prime the new Japanese module’s robotic arm for work during nine days docked at the orbiting laboratory. STS-124 also delivered a new station crew member, Expedition 17 Flight Engineer Greg Chamitoff. He replaced Expedition 16 Flight Engineer Garrett Riesman, who returned to Earth with the STS-124 crew. The STS-124 mission was completed in 218 orbits, traveling 5,735.643 miles in 13 days, 18 hours, 13 minutes and 7 seconds.
