Our civil engineering program emphasizes transportation, environmental, geotechnical, structural and water resources engineering. Our faculty and academic advisors personally mentor students throughout their time at UND, helping guide them to their first job or graduate school.

Accreditation
UND's BSCE program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET. The next scheduled ABET accreditation visit is in 2027.
Civil Engineering Mission
Our mission is to prepare the next generation of civil engineers through comprehensive education and innovative research to address changing engineering and technological needs, while creating an environment where students, faculty and staff can achieve their full potential to serve the profession and improve the safety, health and wellbeing of the society and the environment.
Program Educational Objectives
The following Program Educational Objectives have been established by involving all program constituencies:
- Graduates practice civil engineering in planning, design, construction, operation, performance assessment, and maintenance of safe, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure in various professional settings.
- Graduates continue life-long learning by participating in job-related training activities, pursuing and maintaining professional engineering licenses, seeking or assuming leadership roles, and/or attending graduate school.
- Graduates contribute to the economic development and public health of the State of North Dakota, the region, the nation, and the world.
- Graduates meet society's engineering needs by collaborating with other professions safely, effectively, and ethically.
- Graduates solve problems and contribute to new ideas and innovations that advance their profession and society.
ABET Student Outcomes
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
- An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
- An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
- An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
- An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
- An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
- An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
