The College of Engineering and Mines is rich with faculty having a strong interest in energy and the environmental. Forrest Ames (Mechanical Engineering). Research Interests: External gas path heat transfer, film cooling, aerodynamics, influence of flow field turbulence, turbulence modeling, gas turbine component cooling.
Frank Bowman (Chemical Engineering). Research interests: Atmospheric aerosols, organic aerosol partitioning, mathematical modeling of multicomponent aerosols, air quality modeling, educational technology, assessment of student learning, educational air pollution models.
Matthew Cavalli (Mechanical Engineering). Research Interests: Composite materials, fatigue and corrosion fatigue, diffusion bonding of metals.
Will Gosnold (Geology). Research interests: Continental heat flow, borehole paleoclimatology, geothermal energy, heat advection in fluids, tectonics.
Nanak Grewal (Mechanical Engineering). Research interests: Heat transfer in fluid beds.
Surjoit Gupta (Mechanical Engineering). Research interests: Advanced materials processing and sintering, nanomaterials, structural and high temperature materials, CO2 sequestration and green materials, tribology, oxidation, and surface studies.
Maysam Haghshenas (Mechanical Engineering). Research interests: Structure– properties– processing relationships in materials; microstructural and mechanical characterization of engineering materials. ambient and elevated-temperature (thermomechanical) processing of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.
I-Hsuan Ho (Geological Engineering). Research Interests: Geological Hazards Investigations and Mitigation, Energy Foundation Development, Soil-Structure Interaction, Slope Stability Evaluation, Modeling and Mitigation, Computational Geomechanics, Numerical Modeling for Geomaterials, Energy Geotechnics
Hadi Jabbari (Petroleum Engineering). Research interests: Reservoir engineering; EOR, PVT, PTA, NFRs, modeling/simulation
Yun Ji (Chemical Engineering). Research interests: Renewable and sustainable energy, chemicals, and fuels; biomass pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis, integrated energy and environmental projects, process simulation, forestry biorefinery, pulp and paper technology.
Edward Kolodka (Chemical Engineering). Research interests: Polymer reaction engineering, synthesis, rheological and mechanical properties of polymers, development of polymers from agricultural products, synthesis and characterization of conducting polymers.
Gautham Krishnamoorthy (Chemical Engineering). Research interests: Computational fluid dynamics, simulations of combustion reacting flows, carbon capture technologies, radiative heat transfer.
Michael Mann (Chemical/Energy Engineering). Research interests: Advanced energy systems firing coal and biomass, emission control, renewable and sustainable energy systems, coupling thermodynamics with political, social, and economic factors.
Taufique Mahmood (Geological Engineering). Research interests: Hydrology, climate change, water quality and remote sensing.
Mehdi Ostadhassan (Petroleum Engineering). Research interests: Experimental determination of reservoir rock properties, rock physics modeling, seismic interpretation and modeling, geomechanical modeling, wellbore stability analysis, shale instability and geological and petrophysical modeling.
Hui Pu (Petroleum Engineering). Research interests: Reservoir engineering, reservoir simulation, enhanced oil recovery (co2, chemical, low salinity waterflooding), unconventional resources, wettability, imbibition, capillarity, phase behavior, crude oil/brine/rock interactions, geological storage of CO2, and fluid flow in porous media.
Minou Rabiei (Petroleum Engineering). Research interests: Application of data mining and soft computing techniques in petroleum engineering, reservoir characterization using modern applied statistics, decision support systems for optimized reservoir management, petroleum geostatistics
Prakash Ranganathan (Electrical Engineering). Research interests: Optimization models, linear programming, smart grid control technologies – (synchrophasor applications), cyber security, wireless sensor networks, data mining, and software engineering.
Hossein Salehfar (Electrical Engineering). Research interests: Renewable energy systems and components for wind, solar, geothermal, fuel cells; grid integration issues and controls.
Wayne Seames (Chemical Engineering). Research interests: Mitigating the impact of heavy inorganic elements upon the environment, combustion technology, alternative fuels development, biochemical unit operations, environmental impacts from wood and concrete contamination, enhancing the productivity of agricultural processing plants.
Brian Tande (Chemical Engineering). Research interests: Polymer science and engineering with applications in sustainable energy, rheology of complex fluids, block copolymer morphology, neutron scattering, effect of polymer branching on membrane transport, polymers and composites from renewable sources.
Clement Tang (Mechanical Engineering). Research interests: Thermal fluid sciences. multiphase flow heat transfer, complex fluid flow, microfluidics, computational fluid dynamics and heat transfer.
Donemei Wang (Geological Engineering). Research interests: Enhanced oil recovery project planning, numerical reservoir simulation, EOR economic evaluation, Petroleum Engineering
