A 1-kg, 10-cm x 10-cm x 10-cm cube designed for launch as a low Earth orbit picosatellite, containing commercial-off-the-shelf telecommunications components and accommodations for a small scientific payload. The UND CubeSat was designed mainly by EE and ME undergraduate students, with the project initiated to teach undergraduate and graduate engineering students about the systems engineering process. CubeSat launches were conducted using high-altitude weather balloons in 2003. Funded by ND NASA EPSCoR, Rockwell Collins Charitable Corporation, the NSF REU Site program, and the UND Office of the Vice President for Research. Project start date January 2002, engineering development completed in 2004.
