Chemically Accelerated Vibratory Surface Finishing (CAVSF) Process
The CAVSF process utilizes abrasive media and chemical washes to give the materials being treated a finer finish than can be accomplished with ordinary finishing processes. The image at the right gives a simplified description of the process.
The process is accomplished with the use of one of two vibratory bowls utilized by the Advanced Engineered Materials Center, such as the one pictured below.
During the process, ceramic media is placed in the bowl and the material being treated is placed on top of it. As the bowl vibrates, the material works its way into the ceramic media and chemicals flow through the bowl.
