One strength of the Mechanical Engineering program at University of North Dakota is the support of its alumni. Whether giving presentations and seminars to current students about professional issues, advocating for company sponsorships of research or equipment donations, serving as industrial advisors for senior design projects, or providing direct monetary contributions in support of the program, ME alumni are a key component of the ME Department's continued success.
For example, contributions can be directed to a variety of endowments and projects which have an immediate and significant impact on students. Last year these donations allowed the department to award scholarships in excess of $50,000 to more than 50 students. In addition, we were able to support several groups of students on various design projects. These projects included NASA's Autonomous Mining and the Formula-1 Society of Automotive Engineers competitions. Alumni contributions and corporate sponsorship have made it possible for dozens of students to travel to these competitions and receive a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Over the last eight years the department has nearly doubled in size. This growth has resulted in both opportunities and challenges to continue to provide the excellent engineering education that our alumni expect from UND. While many alumni remain connected to the Department, our goal is to motivate even more former students to actively support the success of the next generation. To encourage alumni contributions, the ME Department will recognize the alumni classes 1) making the greatest monetary contribution over the calendar year and 2) having the highest percentage of alumni offering student support (whether monetary, through project advisement, or through presentations or seminars). The charts below show the current top five alumni classes in each category.
Please consider how your expertise and resources could help today's students – and help your class be recognized for their commitment to Department of Mechanical at University of North Dakota. Donations can be made via the UND Foundation. Sponsorships should be arranged directly with the Department at 701-777-2571 .
