Institute for Energy Studies (IES)
The Institute for Energy Studies (IES) pursues new frontiers in energy education, research and outreach that enable the development of the next generation of integrated energy technologies that are economically competitive, reliable, sustainable, and politically and environmentally acceptable.
In recognition of North Dakota's vast energy resources - lignite coal, oil and gas, wind, solar, biomass and other renewables - it is essential that the University of North Dakota (UND) plays a vital role in reducing our dependence on foreign sources of energy. The IES was created to enhance UND's standing as a premier "Energy University" that inspires the creation of new knowledge that enables the development of revolutionary energy technologies, trains the next generation of energy experts, and establishes advanced industries required to make affordable emissions-free energy technologies a reality.
The Institute, its Faculty Affiliates and its Affiliated Research Groups have a long history of successful projects. Success stories are continually added. Please browse through our archive to see examples of our accomplishments.
IES focuses on the integration of education, research and outreach associated with energy generation, distribution, and systems integration from fossil fuels and renewable resources.
Recent projects are highlighted and demonstrate the accomplishments of the IES. Details can be obtained by contacting the IES.
